"One of the highlights of tutoring was receiving a graduation picture from a student I had been working with for many years. Written on the back was, 'This is what all your hard work was for. Thank you.' " Bonnie, SOS volunteer tutor for eight years

Volunteer Parent Assistants provide direct support to children and families at SOS Children's Villages Illinois for 2-3 hours a day, twice a week. Volunteer Parent Assistants provide direct education support and help children develop positive life, social, and recreational skills. Together, the Volunteer Parent Assistants and foster parents will coordinate family activities and responsibilities and help foster a loving and supportive home environment. Volunteer Parent Assistants will benefit from comprehensive preparation and training.
Tutors
Foster children are often at a distinct academic disadvantage resulting from frequent disruptions and placement changes. Tutors play a critical role in providing targeted one-on-one tutoring to children, giving them the instruction, support, and attention they need to improve academically.
Mentors
Because children have been forgotten and neglected prior to arriving at SOS Children’s Villages Illinois, positive role models play an instrumental role in their overall growth and development. Mentors spend time with children both individually and in groups, providing insights and acting as a trusted guide.
Gardeners
The Wellness Garden provides children at the Chicago Village with fresh produce and provides opportunities to learn about healthy eating habits, sustainability, locally grown products, and food deserts. Help us by working in the garden or hosting an educational workshop about these topics.
Birthday Party Volunteers
Birthday party volunteers help children celebrate important milestones in their lives. Volunteers organize bi-monthly birthday parties and help fundraise for birthday gifts.
