Celebrating the Launch of the Community Center
SOS Illinois is looking forward to celebrating the launch of the Roosevelt Square Community Center, a first-of-its-kind facility in Chicago, this October. Yet, we are mindful of issues of safety and everyone’s well-being. Thus, out of an abundance of caution, we will wait until it is safe for all of us to gather for a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the Center.
For now, SOS Illinois will provide everyone an opportunity to tour the Center virtually through a self-selected series of videos, including footage of the building and interviews with corporate partners, donors, board members, and staff, that will be hosted on our website. We will share the link with you once the tour is live; and invite you to participate in this historic milestone for the organization.
Even during these most unprecedented times, we recognize our ability to stay connected even at a distance continues to serve as our strength. We are proud that very soon we will be able to share this important, and much-needed, resource with our families, as well as our surrounding neighbors. Thank you for helping us build the future of foster care.
The Roosevelt Square Community Center
To provide the children and families in the Roosevelt Square Village and the surrounding communities with a valuable resource to gather, learn and strengthen their neighborhood,
SOS Illinois is embarking on an exciting chapter in its history with the building of the
Roosevelt Square Community Center. Seeking to nurture and transform lives through this co-located Community Center, located at 13th Street and Blue Island, the Center will be a hub
of family reunification, therapeutic, academic, social, civic, enrichment,
and recreational activities.
About the Project
A Centerpiece Culinary Kitchen designed to educate the community about nutrition and culinary education including relevant job skills training will be a key component of the Center:
• 3,000-square-feet of kitchen and dining space, plus additional square footage in a roof-top terrace
• Intentional design for culinary demonstrations, hands-on learning experiences, and special event entertaining space
• Stations for cooking instruction and student prep area to promote culinary and nutritional education programming including access to the community garden
